- Long paragraphs or body copy—it’s a display font, not a workhorse
- Small-size applications below 24pt without testing (the ‘r’, ‘c’, and ‘s’ tighten up)
- High-trust financial or legal branding where restraint reads as credibility
- UI buttons or navigation menus—its rhythm doesn’t support rapid scanning
Designer Notes You’ll Actually Use
- Test it in black and white first. Its warmth comes from shape—not color—so if it falters without gradients or overlays, it’ll falter in real life.
- Check readability at your smallest intended size. Print a sample label at actual scale. View it on a phone screen. If the ‘e’ or ‘a’ starts closing up, bump the size or choose a different weight.
- Try it on real mockups—not just screens. I once loved how Ramen Soup looked on my monitor, only to find it lost subtlety on kraft paper. Physical context changes everything.
- Compare uppercase vs. lowercase usage. The caps have more presence; the lowercase has more charm. Match case to function: caps for shop signage, lowercase for recipe cards or blog titles.
